BT has announced that the PSTN switch-off date has been revised and moved back by two years. This brings it from the end of 2025 to the end of January 2027. The revision aims to better protect certain customers who may not yet have the infrastructure to cope with the change.
The change in tact will come in the shape of a "single switch" for most business and consumer customers, with BT expecting that everyone will have transitioned from old analogue services by the new switch-off date.
The PSTN switch-off has been years in the making, with the new date putting it at a decade since its original announcement. Though the new date feels like a long time away, moving to an Internet-based phone system should remain a high priority. It may take staff members time to adjust to the change in systems, so better to be prepared rather than flip the switch at the last second.
